A lot of people think that in order to be successful in life means compromising your happiness in order to achieve a more desirable outcome. There are many things that we say “yes” to out of the fear of what will happen if we say “no”.
I’ve most recently opened myself up to the word “no” and what it symbolizes to my overall wellness. Saying no and meaning it allows me the freedom to navigate through life without the heaviness of guilt while keeping boundaries intact.
If saying no doesn’t come naturally to you, today is the time to start living for you. Here are 15 things you should say no to in order to transcend into the person that you were destined to be.
Personality
Talking Badly about Yourself
Self-love comes from within. Stop bad-mouthing yourself!
Selfishness
This is something that I sometimes struggle with. Be a giver. Be happier
Health & Sleep
Unhealthy Food
Take care of your body. It’s the only place you have to live in.
Partying Every Night/Weekend
As we get older, our bodies need rest. Enjoy a good party, but don’t forget your goals. Resting is important.
Skipping Meals
Eat better, not less
Hitting the Snooze Button
The longer you put off getting up, the more hours in a day you waste.
Work-Life Balance
Overly Long Team Meetings
When holding team meetings, you want to keep the meetings short and to the point. Seems rude, but people will thank you for your efficiency.
Doing Work Stuff at Home
Give your full attention while on the clock, don’t take work stress home with you.
Extended Commutes
Avoid long commutes to and from work. If this isn’t an option for you, look for ways to cut your commute in half (car-pooling, not stopping to get coffee, etc)
*BONUS: Working Excessive Hours of OT (Overtime)
There’s nothing wrong with wanting more money, but in order to feel successful at work you must rest and make time for things that are important to you outside of work.
Relationships
Social Media
Keep your relationship off of social media. Somethings are better left unsaid.
Takers
Because you will be left on empty every time.
Listening to Meaningless Gossip
Avoid people who spread lies, nothing good comes from those who talk negatively about others.
Bullsh*tters
If someone doesn’t have time for you, don’t find time for them. Relationships are mutual.
Personal Development
Things That Don’t Work Towards Goals
Question the things that you tie yourself to. If it’s not a Hell Yes!, It’s a no.
Waiting for Things that Don’t Serve You
I’m not talking about the waitress at a restaurant, but for things that you can do all on your own. Book that vacation, go out on the town solo. You don’t have to wait around until others are ready.
How does saying “no” feel now? Start off with small steps in order to work yourself up to the larges no’s in life, love, and happiness. You’ll thank yourself for it in the long run.
