The Art of Manliness: Self-Care Routines for Men

Self-care is about promoting and increasing your overall mental, physical and spiritual well-being. Self-care is about putting activities in place now in order to strengthen your foundation as an individual person. Self-care is not just for women who seek a greater purpose in life.

Self care is not just for women. Contrary to popular belief, men who take care of themselves are said to be more attractive, outgoing in nature, and are in-tuned with their wants and needs when interacting with species of the opposite sex (women).

Most of the men that I know generally do well when it comes to taking care of day to day responsibilities, but more can be done in the department of overall wellness. From washing your hands daily, to taking time to trim your nails, a man who understands the importance of taking care of oneself is found more admirable among his peers.

Self-care is about promoting and increasing your overall mental, physical and spiritual well-being. Self-care is about putting activities in place now in order to strengthen your foundation as an individual person. Self-care is not just for women who seek a greater purpose in life.

Self-care is a life long commitment to the man that you envision yourself to be.

If you are ready to start living in a way that brings forth radiance, here are a few self-care routines to implement specifically for men who are prepared to break the mold.

Exercise, Eat Better

What man doesn’t want to feel good, look good and pick up heavy things for his lady? Not only does exercise release endorphins, which are also known as the happy hormone but exercise is also a great way to release tension and rid your body of whatever frustrations built over the course of a day.

Aside from having sex, exercising can increase the feelings of self-worth and esteem. Once you leave the gym, take a second to fuel your body with leafy greens. Ditch fast food and opt-in for a healthy shake, salad (yes men can eat salads) like kale, spinach and asparagus.

Use Moisturizing Products

A man’s body is generally not as delicate as a women’s but it still requires care. Fortunately, there are many products available specifically for men. A good way to care for your skin is to purchase a shower gel or soap that helps to moisturize your skin. After a shower, it is also a good idea to apply lotion to lock in that moisture for smooth silky skin.

Practice Positive Self-Talk

The practice of positive self-talk is more common among women, however, men can learn a thing or two about the benefits of speaking highly of yourself. Start to use positive language and positive self-talk to counteract the times when you undermine your efforts or criticize your results.  Use positive self-talk enough and you might actually start to believe you are as awesome as your girl friend or mom thinks you are.

A few examples of positive self-talk includes statements like:

  • ” I did my best today”
  • ” I am enough, even if it doesn’t feel like so right now”
  • ” Tomorrow I can do better”
  • ” I am a good person”
  • ” I deserve to be loved”
  • ” My goals are important, I will achieve them”
  • “I love myself”
  • ” I am beautiful”

Hang Out With Like-Minded People

The saying rings true “birds of a feather flock together”, and nothing turns a person off more than a man who has a bunch of ill-mannered, reckless, immature friends. Growing apart from friends is a normal part of life, but hanging around others that aren’t a true reflection of who you aspire to be can be damaging in the long run.

For men who are experiencing rifts within friendships, try breaking away from old ties and venture out to meeting new guys that you share similar grown-up interests in. Try taking up a new hobby, joining a Facebook group, or talking to new co-workers.

Grow a Beard

From what I’ve been told, growing a beard is not for the faint of hearts. Just like growing the hair on your head, it takes time and patience to see the results of a full and healthy beard. If you are lucky and have enough facial hair to grow a beard, you have to take care of it and trim it. This not only will give you a more mannish appearance, but it will also introduce consistency into your daily routine.

There are many self-care routines that men can implement for a higher feeling of self. The goal here is to do things that make you feel good both inside and out. Take it from someone who knows, the more love that you pour into yourself, the better off you’ll be.
